BuddyPress is a fairly robust plugin for social networking features, especially considering that it is free. The developers at BuddyDev have an extensive set of free and paid plugins that enhance BuddyPress with some helpful capabilities. Some of the features that we found most valuable were the ability to add, modify, or remove the tabs for both the personal profiles and the groups. For bulk loading of users, the Member Types Pro plugin is useful also.
